Orlen Upstream 

Orlen Upstream is a dependent partnership of the Polish conglomerate PKN Orlen S.A.  The company has operated since 2006 and some of its statute goals are: exploring and identifying carbon oxide reserves, and extracting oil and natural gas. 

Orlen Upstream owns 7 concessions which are located in the following voivodeships: Lublin, ‎Łódź and Mazowieckie. They comprise nearly 6 thousand square kilometres.

The company has conducted 4 exploration drills since 2013, including one horizontal on the following concessions - Wierzbica (Syczyn - OU1 and Syczyn – OU2), Lubartów (Berejów - OU1), Garwolin (Goździk-OU1) and performed work on the second horizontal drill (Berejów - OU2K). 

PGNiG 

Polish Oil & Gas Company (PGNiG SA) is the biggest Polish enterprise which is involved in exploration and extracting carbon oxides. The partnership employs approximately 30 thousand people and conducts work connected with extraction and sales of natural gas in Poland and abroad.

PGNiG is strongly engaged in exploration of gas from unconventional reserves in Poland. The company has 15 concessions which stretch from Pomerania to the Lublin area and their joint area is about 12762 square kilometres, according to the Ministry of Environment.  

Polish Oil & Gas Company (PGNiG SA) conducted 5 exploration drills up to the end of 2012 - three of them on the Wejherowo concession, including Lubocino-2 levels, one of them on the Tomaszów Lubelski concession and the second on the Pionki Kazimierz concession. 

3Legs Resources

3Legs Resources Group is involved in exploration and managing unconventional oil and gas reserves. Since 2011, the company has been listed on the London Alternative Investment Market Stock Exchange.

3Legs Resources owns two partnerships with exploration concessions - Lane Resources Poland LLC and Lane Energy Poland LLC. The Group is involved in 9 concessions - six of them are located on the Pomeranian and the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, the remaining three are located in southern Poland. ConocoPhilips is 3Legs Resources partner on Baltic concessions. The total area occupied by the concessions belonging to the Group is nearly 6910 square kilometres.

Exploration drills are conducted by Lane Energy which in 2010 performed two vertical holes: Łebień LE-1 (Lębork concession) and Łęgowo LE-1 (Cedry Wielkie concession). In 2011 it performed two horizontal drills: Warblino LE-1H (Daminica concession) and Łebień LE-2H which was subject to multistage fracturing. ‎Łebień LE-2H achieved the first stable shale gas production in Poland. In 2012, Lane Energy conducted one exploration drill on the Lębork - Strzeszewo LE-1 concession.

Talisman Energy Polska 

Talisman Energy is a global company operating in the exploration and extraction of carbon oxide sector with headquarters in Calgary, Canada.

Talisman Energy Poland owns three exploration concessions whose total area is 2540 square kilometres. They are located in the northern part of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship and the Warminian-Pomorskie Voivodeship.

The company performed the first drills in 2011 accomplishing drills on the Gdańsk W. concession. In 2012 the company performed two consecutive drills on the Szczawno and Braniewo S. concessions.

Marathon Oil Poland 

Marathon Oil is an independent international energy company engaged in exploration and production of oil and gas. The partnership is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Marathon Oil through Marathon Oil Poland Sp. z o.o. owns 11 concessions for unconventional gas exploration and operates all of them. The minority shareholder from 10 of 11 of these concessions is the company Nexen.  The total concession area owned by Marathon Oil Poland Sp. z o.o. is 9378 square kilometres.

Marathon Oil began exploration drills in December 2011. By the end of 2012 the company finished 5 bore holes (Orzechów, Siedlce, Rypin, Kwidzyń and Brodnica concessions). At the turn of 2012 and 2013 drills on the Sokołów Podlaski were still in progress.

Chevron Polska Energy Resources 

The American oil corporation Chevron, one of the leading entities operating in the reconnaissance and energy resources exploitation market, conducts business in Poland via its branch - Chevron Polska Energy Resources Sp. z o.o.  

The partnership owns 4 exploration concessions in Poland located in the south-eastern part of the country (Lublin, Podkarpackie and Świętokrzyskie Voivodeships).  The total concession area belonging to the Chevron corporation is nearly 4.4 thousand square kilometres.

In October 2011 the company ended a 12-month 2D seismic data extraction program. It was the basis for a series of drills. By the end of 2012 Chevron had performed 2 drills (Grabowiec and Frampol concessions). In November 2012 the company started working on another exploration well (Zwierzyniec concession).

San Leon Energy 

San Leon Energy is a partnership operating in the oil and gas branch, listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange. Its shareholders are the investor George Soros and Blackrock Inc.

The company operates in Europe and northern Africa. It is present in Poland via entities that have 10 concessions in total for gas exploration from unconventional sources. The partnerships connected with San Leon Energy are: Liesa Energy, Gora Energy Resources, Vabush Energy, Oculis Energy, and Helland Investments. San Leon holds shares in Joyce Investments Sp. z o.o. and Maryani Investments Sp. z o.o. The total concession area in which the company is engaged is 9409 square kilometres. 

5 exploration wells were drilled on the partnership concessions which are the property of the San Leon Energy to the end of 2012. Liesa Energy Sp. z o.o. conducted 2 drills on the Nowa Sól concession - Lelechów SL-1 i Czasław SL-1. The Vabush Energia partnership performed two drills on the Nida concession (Chopin – 1 and Belvedere – 1). Exploration drills were performed by Gora Energy Resources - the Siciny drill - 2 on the Góra concession.

BNK Petroleum

BNK Petroluem  Inc. is an international energy company which is focused on extraction, research and exploitation of carbon oxide resources, specifically unconventional resources. The partnership is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The company has implemented projects involving shale gas since 2005. BNK Petroleum operates in Poland via dependent partnerships - BNK Polska and those that have carbon oxide exploration concessions - Indiana Investments Sp. z o.o. and Saponis Investments Sp. z o.o. In total, BNK Petroleum owns shares in 6 concessions located in the Pomeranian and West Pomeranian Voivodeships with a total area of 6438 square kilometres.

Saponis Investments partnership performed drill work between 2010 and 2012 in all of the concession areas - Słupsk, Sławno, and Starogard - performing one drill for each area. Indiana Investments performed two bore holes - Gapowo B-1 on the Bytów concession and Miszewo T-1 on the Trzebielino concession.

Eni Polska 

The Polish branch of the Italian corporation Eni, one of the biggest companies from the oil and gas sector. Eni operates in 85 countries and employs 79 thousand workers.

Eni Polska Sp. z o.o. owns three shale gas exploration concessions, located in the following voivodeships:  Pomeranian and Warmian-Masurian. Their combined area is 1967.72 square kilometres.

In 2012, the company performed three exploration drills in the Elbląg and Malbork concession areas .

ExxonMobil Corporation

The American oil giant ExxonMobil via its partnerships - ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Poland Sp. z o.o. , ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Poland Sp. z o.o. Energia Zamość Sp.j. and ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Poland Sp. z o.o. Energia Chełm Sp.j., owns 6 concessions with a combined area of 6591 square kilometres. In the middle of 2012 the company announced that due to the unsuccessful exploration work it is resigning from further exploration of unconventional gas in Poland.

In 2011 ExxonMobil ended two exploration drills - Siennica - 1 on the Mińsk Mazowiecki concesion and Krupe - 1 on the Chełm concession.

PKN Orlen is interested in taking over a part of the ExxonMobil concessions which in 2012 together with ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Poland applied for assigning two concession areas - Wodynie-‎Łuków and Wołomin.

Silurian Hallwood

Silurian Hallwood is an independent oil and gas producer. The partnership came into being in 2011 and its biggest shareholders are Hallwood Energy Group and Petrolinnvest S.A. 

Silurian Hallwood owns five exploration concessions via Silurian Sp. z o.o., located in the Opolskie, Śląskie, Lublin and Mazowieckie voivdodeships.  The combined concession owned by the company is 4082 square kilometres. The company provides services connected with drill work and water economy.

By the end of 2012 Silurian Hallwood had not started exploration drills on the owned concessions.

Hutton Energy/Baasgas

The Hutton Energy partnership came into being in 2011 as a result of relocating and transforming of the Australian company BasGas Pty Ltd.

Hutton Energy operates in Poland via Strzelecki Energia sp. z o.o. dependent partnership which owns 3 exploration concessions (Łódź Zachód, Poddębice and Koło). Their combined area is 2626 square kilometres. The company has shares in South Prabuty LLP Spółka osobowa z o.o., Wileun Spółka osobowa z o.o. and Olesnica Spółka osobowa z o.o., each having one gas exploration concession.

By the end of 2012 the partnerships connected with Hutton Energy had not started exploration drills on their concessions.

Petrolinvest 

Petrolinvest has been a listed partnership on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 2007. The company's strategic activity is exploration and extraction of carbon oxide.

Petrolinvest is engaged in investments in the shale gas sector in Poland as a shareholder of the partnerships owning exploration concessions - Silurian, Eco Energy 2010 and Wisent Oil and Gas. Petrolinvest operates on 13 exploration concessions in total with a combined area of 9639 square kilometres.

By the end of 2012 the company had not started any drill work on any of the concessions. Wisent Oil and Gas partnership, in which Petrolinvest has 31.67 percent shares, plans to begin drill work on its two concessions (Lidzbark Warminski and Kętrzyn) in the first quarter of 2013.

DPV Service

DPV Service Sp. z o.o. has operated on the Polish energy market since 2000. Its primary activity is oil and natural gas exploration and production as well as storing waste in Poland. The company is connected with Emfesz, the Hungarian distributor of natural gas.

The partnership owns five shale gas exploration concessions in Poland. They are located in the ‎‎Łódzkie and Mazowieckie, Świętokrzyskie and Lublin voivodeships with a combined area of 3879 square kilometres.

DPV Service Sp. z o. o. has not started any drills on its concessions till January.
